ZEP-RE (PTA Reinsurance Company) is a specialized institution of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) established to service and develop the insurance and reinsurance industry within the Region. Partnering with ACRE Africa, we are seeking high caliber and results-oriented professionals to implement the AMAIZING CROP INSURANCE PROGRAM (ACIP) July 2021-July 2023 in the following capacities:

  1. PROJECT MANAGER

The role

  • Design and implement project activities including the development of work plans, recruitment of personnel, and management of activity teams, project budgets and activity resources.
  • Ensure quality control of project activities, including supporting field teams, reviewing work deliverables, and providing value-added feedback.
  • Overall supervision of ACRE Africa’s Champion farmer network across the different counties, through direct supervision of the county supervisors. This includes ensuring that the champion network is fully in place at the beginning of each season.
  • Setting the KPI’s of all the personnel in the champion network in conjunction with ACRE management and project partners.
  • Formulate a clear champion training plan and schedules and ensures that they have all the required resources for implementation.
  • Responsible for the overall management and responsibility of distribution and sales of products to target beneficiaries, ensuring that all sales targets are achieved.
  • Ensure that necessary permissions and licenses for activity implementation are obtained on time in respective counties.
  • Ensure project implementation and monitoring is done in a timely manner through provision of biweekly updates and reports on field activities. This includes research and development research reports, technical notes, and related project activities.
  • Maintain positive relationships with project implementation partners and targeted beneficiaries.
  • Participate in new business activities including but not limited to technical writing, recruitment, cost, partner recruitment and management, and strategy development. This will include contribution to corporate systems and procedures development, support of the senior management, and willingness to support the improvement of the overall business.
  • Attend to other duties that may be assigned.

The person

The preferred candidate should have: –

  • At least bachelor’s/master’s degree in Agri-Business Management related field/Rural development or a relevant field.
  • Relevant Professional Qualifications in Agri-Business Management.
  • At least 4 years’ relevant work experience in managing large field teams in relation agri-business service/rural development.
  • Proven ability to grow sales and develop client relationships especially in agricultural/insurance.
  • Demonstrate ability to deliver set targets.
  • Performance driven with an understanding of commercialization of agriculture.
  • Honest, reliable, and proactive with good networking skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to change in priorities.
  • Experience and knowledge in agriculture insurance will be an added advantage.

2.   BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR (Financial)

The role

  • Manage credit-based insurance business between target beneficiaries and financial institutions by acting as the key contact between financial institution in linking insurance products with agricultural credit.
  • Lead product and business development and within delegated authority in structuring insurance and credit pricing and conditions on transactions.
  • Draft business plans, contracts, proposals, sales pitches, presentations, reference material, and other documents as required.
  • Follow up on generated leads, finishing contracts and market research with financial institutions while ensuring monthly set targets are met.
  • Build strong business relationships with new clients and maintain existing client relationships.
  • Collating and maintaining client information in the ACRE Africa database.
  • Developing and implement sales strategies, client service and retention plans, and analyzing sales data to inform or update project and marketing strategies.
  • Combine business and agricultural knowledge with an in-depth understanding of farmer’s current production risks and financial position to provide innovative and workable alternatives.
  • Evaluate the risk in ACRE Africa insurance and loan transactions and assign a probability of default and loss given default.
  • Participate in new business activities including but not limited to technical writing, recruitment, cost, partner recruitment and management, and strategy development. This will include contribution to corporate systems and procedures development, support of the senior management, and willingness to support the improvement of the overall business.
  • Attend to other duties that may be assigned.

The person

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Financial business Management or a relevant field.
  • Relevant Professional Qualifications in Finance and Accounting.
  • At least 4 years’ relevant work experience in financial industry/rural development.
  • Proven ability to grow sales and develop client relationships especially in agricultural/insurance.
  • Demonstrate ability to deliver set targets.
  • Performance driven with an understanding of commercialization of agriculture.
  • Honest, reliable, and proactive with good networking skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to change in priorities.
  • Experience and knowledge in agriculture insurance will be an added advantage.

3.      BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR (Agricultural Inputs and Markets)

The Role

  • Manage and deliver commercial and technical business plan.
  • Develop and manage insurance based agricultural inputs account relationship in all channels; franchisee, retail, wholesale, farm-level, institutions, cooperatives, and wholesale.
  • Develop and maintain insurance based agricultural inputs distribution infrastructure (route-to-market) to ensure adequate coverage and route profitability.
  • Recommend training needs for input companies, target beneficiaries (farmers, county govts, FI’s), project staff while identifying business opportunities for the counties.
  • Onboard and manage input providers to take up agricultural insurance and ensure that the necessary documentation for operations is in place.
  • Collating and maintaining client information in the ACRE Africa database.
  • Account for all field activities and expenses.
  • Evaluate the risk in ACRE Africa insurance and loan transactions and assign a probability of default and loss given default.

The Person

  • Relevant Professional Qualifications in Agri-Business Management.
  • Familiarity with distribution and route to market models.
  • Understanding of retail, wholesale & agricultural environment.
  • Proven ability to grow sales and develop client relationships especially in agricultural/insurance.
  • Demonstrate ability to deliver set targets.
  • Performance driven with an understanding of commercialization of agriculture.
  • Honest, reliable, and proactive with good networking skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to change in priorities.
  • Experience and knowledge in agriculture insurance will be an added advantage.

4.      COUNTY COORDINATOR (10 positions): [Target counties: Bungoma, Busia, Homabay, Kericho, Kisii, Migori, Nakuru, Nandi, Siaya, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu and Vihiga]

The Role

  • Identify and Implement hiring of champions in their respective counties based on the criterion provided by the project manager.
  • Responsible for the overall management and coordination of the champions farmers and the project deliverables in the region of work.
  • Core responsibilities is to ensure that champions meet their deliverables, farmer listing, product distribution and sales, data collection at the end of the season.
  • Ensures champions are available for training on distribution, monitoring and treatment specific trainings.
  • Works to ensure access to farmers through champions by researchers and the rest of the team.
  • Attend to other duties that may be assigned.

The Person

The preferred candidates should have: –

  • Proven residency in the target counties of implementation.
  • Proven, familiarity and understanding of the county of operation in terms of agricultural landscape with knowledge of agricultural zones and wards in their counties of operations.
  • At least a diploma in an agricultural related field/sales and marketing/insurance/rural development.
  • 2-10 years’ experience in target county with experience in leading teams.
  • Ability to read and write, use smartphone and conversant with the use of word and excel programs.
