Cumulatively, by 2016, over 1,000,000 farmers in Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda insured over 56 Million USD against a variety of weather risks underwritten by UAP Insurance Kenya, CIC Insurance Group Limited, APA Insurance, UAP Insurance Tanzania and SORAS Insurance Rwanda.

Crops insured include maize, sorghum, coffee, sun -flower, wheat, cashew nuts and potato, with coverage against drought, excess rain and storms.

The insurance was distributed through four main channels: seed distribution linked to a mobile network operators location service, agribusinesses with out-growers or contracted farmers, lending institutions and savings and credit cooperatives (SACCOs) providing input loans, and medium-scale professional farmers.
